The Cultural Awareness SIG was formed in 2010 in order to give all IWC members the opportunity to participate in local festivities and celebrations.
Cultural Awareness is important in our very diverse community. Creating opportunities for participating in local celebrations is the aim of the Cultural Awareness SIG.
Another objective is to share individual members’ special interests and talents with the general membership. Such was the case when IWC member Sharon McGrath gave us a lesson in belly dancing…we learned a lot and had such fun!
The group has also commemorated holidays like el Dia de los Muertos (we made an altar for our departed loved ones and shared remembrances of them; we also cooked the traditional food… Mucbil Pollo)
For the Bicentenary of Mexico’s independence we had a party of course.
On the feast day of La Virgen de Guadalupe, we learned why Guadalupe is so special to the people of Mexico and we visited her church in the San Cristobal neighborhood.
We invite you to join us! Our events are not regularly scheduled, but when one is planned, you’ll hear about it through the newsletter.
The activities of this special interest group are open to IWC members, their partners and friends.
