Lorna Trotter passed away on July 28, 2012 at the age of 91.
The following is a piece written by her friend Lorna-Gail Dallin about Lorna several years ago.
Lorna was born, raised, married Arnie and raised their two boys in the Toronto area (mostly the Scarborough) Ontario, Canada.
She describes herself as a homemaker who liked to decorate and was frequently changing color schemes in the house until husband Arnie asked her to slow down as his head was spinning with so many changes. Lorna sewed some of her own clothes, looked after her two boys, Arnie Jr. and Wayne, and loved to go out dancing with her husband who really knew how to cut a rug.
When Arnie retired, they moved to Florida which was somewhat closer to her youngest boy Wayne who by this time was married and living in Mexico.
After a few years in the “Sunshine State”, and several visits to Mexico, Lorna and Arnie took the big decision and moved to Mérida . That was 15 years ago.
Lorna liked the move and enjoyed her Mexican family and friends. She did wonder if she would find any English speaking companions. Then one day, Sara Sands knocked at her door, came in for a coffee and asked Lorna if she would like to join the International Women’s Club of Mérida. Lorna says she is not the kind of woman to join “clubs” but went to several meetings of the IWC and quickly came to appreciate the comforts of a “woman’s group”. She soon had many friends in the club and became good friends with Cathy Head, and early and very active member of IWC Mérida. At the time, Cathy was heading up the Telephone tree reminding members of upcoming meetings and events by phone! (Remember those days?)
Lorna is not so comfortable on her pins these days. She uses a walker to get about, so it is not easy for her to get out to meetings. She certainly enjoys the visit and chats and would welcome members and friends to drop by of a morning. Like many of us older women, she’s not so good on the phone (hard to hear) but if you are ready for a chat, give her a call to make sure she’s at home, and drop by.
Lorna Trotter is the kind of long standing, bedrock member of the Mérida IWC who finds companionship and purpose in a gathering of women. She is happy to join in, to be supportive, to buy tickets to events and raffles, keep up her membership and help a fellow IWCer. Thanks Lorna.
