Kelly Marcon (née Burns) passed away peacefully on October 18, 2021, surrounded by her husband and children, after facing her long journey with corticobasal degeneration with courage, strength and humour. Kelly was known for her kindness, always going out of her way to make everyone feel welcome; not surprisingly she will be missed by so many. She leaves behind her loving husband Alan, who has been her best friend and soulmate for over 40 years. She was very proud of her children and their spouses, who will miss her dearly: Joshua & Tamara Davidson Marcon (Belleville, ON), Krista & Travis Gibson (Vancouver, BC). She was the one and only beloved “Nannerz” to her twin grandchildren Oscar & Sullivan, who were fortunate to spend seven months with her last winter. She was the daughter of Dan & Lyn Burns (predeceased), and daughter-in-law of Sliver & Rita Marcon (predeceased), and Annette Marcon. She was the loving sister of Dan Burns (Zita) and Colleen DuHart, and loving sister-in-law of Doug Marcon (Suzan), and Chris Marcon (Theresa). She was the self-proclaimed “favourite” Aunt of many nieces and nephews. Many other family members will miss her dearly, including cousins on both sides of the family. She touched the lives of so many more including Lynne, her first friend in Sudbury; Carmen, her redheaded “sister;” and many other friend groups (the Gang, the Monday/Tuesday girls, walking groups, friends from the Ottawa area and Merida, and former coworkers).
Kelly was a Lab Technologist, spending the majority of her career in Transfusion Medicine. She was passionate about sharing her knowledge with others and was thrilled to teach the MLT students who rotated through the lab. Throughout her life, Kelly enjoyed writing poems and songs, and even won a few competitions along the way. She is particularly known for writing many special skits and songs for family and friends, including the famous “Mama Kelly”. Often drawing on her life events and adventures for her writing, her experiences in El Salvador inspired her first novel “A Crack in The Road”, which was recently published with the help of her husband and dear friend Dora.
Kelly had a ‘joie de vivre’ that was palpable to all those who knew her. She was always up for an adventure and lived her life to the fullest. She loved to travel and was known for both her spontaneous and planned adventures with family and friends. Some of her memorable adventures include yearly couple’s canoe trips, playing poker with Josh in Las Vegas, attending the Vancouver Olympics, and watching a Red Sox game in Boston with Krista… many of which she teased Al that he wasn’t able to attend. She loved to travel with Al to “someplace warm” in the winter; most recently extended stays in Merida, Mexico warmed her heart (and hands). Her generosity was second to none.
She was always involved in helping others, including building houses with Habitat for Humanity in Sudbury and Hungary, organizing and building a medical clinic in El Salvador, preparing food baskets, and volunteering with the Lions Club of Sudbury.
Despite her struggles with corticobasal degeneration, Kelly continued to live her life to the fullest. She had a sharp sense of humour which never faltered, and said she wanted to “go out with her boots on.” Kelly maintained a positive attitude, and always said she was so fortunate, with no regrets; she lived a wonderful life.

Member Lynne Milner noted that Kelly lived a year longer than most with her illness. Lynne said, “We will miss her. She was a genuinely nice person and a delight to spend time with.”
